Sometimes you live with something that you’re not completely happy with because you just haven’t found the perfect thing. I think most of us do this with furniture, decorations, clothing, and sometimes even deeper issues. For the last four years, I’ve been living with a messy counter from improper storage for my various medication. I feel as though I HAVE to have them out in order for me to remember to take them all every day. My husband also has a number of medications now, and all together they were taking up a huge corner of our countertop. We lived in complete disarray for years, with a few small circular baskets trying to (unsuccessfully) hold everything. But lo and behold, on a recent trip to JoAnns, I finally found THE basket I’ve been looking for.
I was so excited to put this thing to use when I got home it never even crossed my mind to take a before picture. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders, and that everything in the world was alright. Happy sigh.
This basket was 50% off so I scored it for less than $10. It has three small compartments, and two larger compartments. The two larger spaces and one smaller one hold the vitamins and my meds, and two of the smaller spaces hold my husbands stuff. It just feels so good for everything to have a spot and fit! It also saves me counter space, very valuable counterspace. I might still buy a smaller basket for the pain killers, but I think more likely I will hide them in the cupboard as they are not needed routinely.
You might be saying, “Gee! That sure seems like a lot of medication!” And I would say it’s not that bad. The easiest way for me to remember to take everything is to get into a routine and do the same thing every single day. Especially now that allergy season is kicking into high gear, I need to do the nasal rinse every day. For me to remember it, I had to designate a specific time slot for it everyday so that I would remember it– I do it after my morning nebulizer and airvest treatment, and before breakfast. Taking the pills are easy- almost all of them get taken with a meal except my allergy meds that I take right before bed.
I’m so happy I waited until I found just the perfect basket, and I’m also happy it works so well! It brings a little smile to my face and makes everything a little bit brighter. :)
