Shelves in the closet, happy thoughts indeed!
So here is a peek inside my closets, because after all, that’s all we really want to do when we’re in someone else’s home. The closet can reveal all sorts of things about the person storing their stuff. I did not really clean up much for these photos- in fact, I only really cleaned the master bedroom closet because it was time to clean it OUT. I haven’t thought too much specifically, what my closets say about me. I do know they say that I have way too much stuff in general, particularly clothes and shoes that I do not wear. And I think my closets also say that I haven’t devoted much time to them. Poor closets, you will someday know love.
To start, the two closets you’ve already seen, ho-hum. The newly painted closet in the twin guest bed room:
And the closet featured in last month’s Craft Room tour:
Now for the good stuff, the master bedroom closets. We’re lucky enough to have two completely separate closets. One is designated “Hers” and the smaller one is designated “His”. Although “Hers” closet stores a lot of other stuff too.
When we moved in, none of the closets had any more shelves than the typical top rack, wire shelf. Until we save enough money to really make this place look like we want it to, we’re sticking with the wire shelving. It fits the budget. For His closet, I purchased some gray shelving with wall support brackets to add down one side. He was really just piling his clothes into the closet, and there wasn’t much room for organization. Adding four shelves, plus an extra wire shoe rack I had laying around, everything has a place. Over the door is a hang-it-all I found at Target for $1 a few Christmases ago. I bought the green basket at Home Depot to catch all the little stuff that doesn’t really have a home.
In the other closet, I added two large shelves, seen on the right. They mostly store bath stuff, linens, some home stuff, and extra bags and purses. Along the back wall, I have sweaters in see-through containers. I have two purses hanging up for decorative value.
The black one is my mom’s, she used it in high school when she went to dances. The owl purse was a gift from a friend of my mom from when she was an exchange student in Germany. She gave that to me when I was about 8 I think.
Just because it’s so cute:
On the left side of the closet, is mostly clothes and shoe storage.
Boxes and bags hold shoes and accessories. Sorry I couldn’t get a very decent shot of my shoes, but you get the idea…
A simple shoe rack from Ikea and one of those hanging fabric shoe racks hold mostly everything.
Alright, I’ve got one more closet to show you. Not fancy or interesting at all, just a linen closet.
This closet actually had two shelves in it, but I added the little wire shelf. It was an extra one I had around, and decided to put it to use in here. The usual, sheets, towels, blankets, pillows, a sleeping bag, blow up mattress, holiday decorations and a vacuum cleaner. But when it’s closed, there’s something special on the door…
Something to smell good and look pretty. I love looking at other people’s closets, and to see all the neat storage, organization, and pretty creative things people do to their closets!
Someday closets, you will be on my “to make pretty” to do list. :)
